Lead from the Front

There will be many tributes today for those that have given their all to defend us and our liberties. This past week a one of those tributes was shared with me and I would like to share it today.  It is an article that tells of the sacrifice of Major Douglas A. Zembiec, killed outside Baghdad in May, 2007.

You are read the entire article at the Washington Post.

What touched me most was an excerpt from one of Major Zembiec’s notebooks that he had described as “Principles my father taught me.”

"Be a man of principle. Fight for what you believe in. Keep your word. Live with integrity. Be brave. Believe in something bigger than yourself. Serve your country.

"Teach. Mentor. Give something back to society. Lead from the front. Conquer your fears. Be a good friend. Be humble and be self-confident.

"Appreciate your friends and family. Be a leader and not a follower. Be valorous on the field of battle. And take responsibility for your actions."

I hope I have been able to instill just some of these values into my children.
