Tree planting ceremony at Emerald Park, Mesa, AZ

A Tree Planting Ceremony will be held in Mesa Urban Forestry Project Part of the “Greening” of Super Bowl XLIX.

The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, in partnership with Verizon and the National Football League (NFL), will be planting trees at Emerald Park in Mesa on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9 a.m.

Tree plantings are a permanent legacy that contribute to the “greening” of each Super Bowl. The Emerald Park event marks the fourth of five major tree projects taking place in the Phoenix area leading up to Super Bowl XLIX. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Super Bowl Urban Forestry Program.

Twenty two newly planted trees will invigorate the flood-damaged park and make it more beautiful and shaded for park goers who enjoy Emerald Park’s disc golf course. Afghan Pine trees will be planted to replace the stressed and damaged mature trees from the floods in September 2014.
