Mesa opens new urban pocket park

City of Mesa announced today:

Mesa held a dedication ceremony today to celebrate the grand opening of Fountain Plaza, an urban pocket park located on the southeast corner of Mesa Drive and Southern Ave.

“We have intentionally designed pocket parks around our more urban and dense areas in Mesa,” Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Director, Marc Heirshberg said. “This provides a place for the neighborhood and community to recreate within walking distance of their home. Fountain Plaza is a unique design and we hope the community embraces it.”

Fountain Plaza is approximately 5,000 square feet and features a small fountain in the center with skateable features including grinding rails, boxes and ramps. A small shade sail is the central focal point of the plaza. The fountain features seat walls and nine water jets with light that chase streams of water.

“This park is a wonderful new addition to District 4,” Mesa District 4 Councilmember, Chris Glover said. “It is unlike any other pocket park in the city and it offers something extremely distinctive to the area.”

Mesa currently has 5 pocket parks located along the light rail line, Southern Ave. in the Fiesta District and along Mesa Dr. Fountain Plaza will be open from sunrise to 10 p.m.
